History

During the 1970s, Don Blumenthal and some others created the Porterville Area Coordinating Council to serve as a vehicle for helping people and families in need. For years Don was the one who was called by those needing overnight shelter.

In 1997, the Porterville Area Ministerial Association asked if the PACC ministry could expand if PAMA became involved and a coordinating umbrella, including other helping agencies, was formed, the staff hired, and an office opened.

During the 1998-1999 freeze, the Coordinating Council became the umbrella organization for the relief efforts. Over $200,000.00 came through PACC to the Rural Assistant Interfaith network for relief efforts.

Because PACC exists as an incorporated agency, it can apply for, and administer funds from a variety of sources for a variety of needs.

Today, PACC helps with the following:

1-emergency shelter
2. utilities
3. emergency transportation
4. gasoline vouchers
5. emergency clothing
6. Xmas baskets in conjunction with the local Salvation Army.

Our referrals for assistance come from churches, CPS, Proteus. Tulare County Health & Human Services, Parenting Network, Porterville Police Department, Tulare Works, and local organizations, and many other community organizations.

PACC is the main distribution point for bread. We have partnered with the Porterville BIMBO bread store and PACC picks up an average of 1300 trays of bread per month. The bread is distributed to approximately 25 different churches, nonprofits, food pantries, and other organizations in the Southern Tulare County area.

Recently PACC has partnered with Fresno based Neighborhood Industries. One of their programs is their Care Grocery Relief Program. PACC will distribute non-perishable food boxes to those in need in the area.
